Recording Storage Calculator
Plan drive space for a regular recording routine, such as streams, lectures or gameplay. Enter your bitrates and schedule to see the storage each recording and each week will consume, and how long your drive will last.
Result
- Storage per recording

About 4.72 TB per year at this pace.
Assumes nothing is deleted or offloaded.
How it is calculated
per_recording = (video_bps + audio_bps) × hours × 3600 ÷ 8
per_week = per_recording × recordings_per_week
recordings_that_fit = floor(storage_bytes ÷ per_recording)
The per-recording figure uses the same formula as the video file size calculator, so the two always agree.
Worked example
Recording 2 hours at 20 Mbps video and 192 kbps audio is 20.192 Mbps, or 18.17 GB per recording. Five recordings a week need about 90.9 GB. A 2 TB drive holds 110 whole recordings, roughly 22 weeks.
Assumptions and limits
- Bitrate is treated as constant. Variable-bitrate recorders may use less on static scenes.
- Container overhead is not included; leave a few percent of margin.
- Drives are sold in decimal units (1 TB = 1,000 GB) while some operating systems display binary units, so usable space may look smaller than the label. The storage unit selector lets you match what you see.
- Backups, project files, proxies and exports also need space and are not counted.
